Cookie Monstaz: Annotation of Film Poster

The title of our film “cookie monstaz” represents an urban lifestyle as the characters are from a working class background. The title is written in slang to highlight the stereotypical behaviour of young people in terms of their age and gender.

The film is based on two college kids who battle for a Cookie, through a dance off. The producers of the film decided that it would be better if we slightly mis-lead the audience by being ambiguous; this is demonstrated with the two male characters on the poster above. For example, the two boys are in a stance position with a “vs” sign in between them. This would usually represent a battle of some sort of violence, but instead there’s a little twist as they have a dance off.

The image of the two Cookies emerged into the word “Cookie” is used to replace the letters “O”. This will also give a hint to the audience of what the film might be about. We decided to create the cookie image as it is the “USP” of the film; it will also be included in all of our synergistic features when advertising, this is how people will recognise our film, and attract a wider audience. It is vital that we get the perfect image of the cookie as it is the most important part of the film as well as the advertising.

The Tag line “Tough Cookies Don’t Break …Dance?” slightly gives away the story line. However the audience would have to be rather smart to figure out the meaning behind it. For example, “Tough Cookies Don’t Break”, on its own makes sense, as it was already stated in the title, and audience would know that the film was based on a cookie. On the other hand, the second part of the title “…Dance?” is quite confusing as there are no clues to there being a dance off, there fore this should cleverly attract a bigger audience to our film as they would have to watch it to understand it. Sometimes it can be better to use fewer parentheses and not give away too much information, as some people may think that just because our film is a comedy, that we might imitate a another comedy that is similar to ours, and they easily loose interest because they think that they’ve seen it all before.
